TCHA’s One Year of Impact: Compelling commitment and we’re just getting started!

It was over a year ago when I was approached to lead the Twin Cities Housing Alliance.  And as I am reflecting on our first year of impact, I am so happy I said yes!!!   Not only is the work part of my passion as a policy geek, community connector and regionalist, but it is also about the people who I share that passion with.

The mission driven board of directors and first year members are reflective of the housing providers in our region.  They are risk takers, willing to dig in, volunteer their time and utilize their years of housing experience to get things done.  These traits are what it takes to produce, manage, own, finance, insure, build and advocate for more homes and thriving communities.

I echo Board President Robb Bader’s sentiment about being proud of the incredible work we have been able to accomplish in just one year.  And I also believe, with our compelling commitment to the mission, we are only just getting started.  We focused on organizational development, capacity building, member recruitment, engagement, communications, strategic initiatives, policy impact and strategic alliances.

I urge you to review TCHA’s Year in Review Report.  If you are already a member, thank you for taking the chance and we look forward to benefiting from your expertise as we grow our reach in cities across the region.  If you are not a member and want to learn more and be engaged, please contact me at cathy@tchousingalliance.com.

There is the saying, “if you see something, say something”.  If you become aware of a community that is struggling with housing policy issues, we can help.   Now is not the time to be complacent about building more, preserving what we already have and protecting those most in need and vulnerable to housing instability.  The housing ecosystem is facing many challenges, and it will take a concerted effort from all stakeholders to overcome them and get to “YES”.  The Twin Cities Housing Alliance is stepping up to the challenge and offering its expertise to communities in need and looking forward to a year of positive progress in the Twin Cities region.

Sincerely,

Cathy Capone Bennett
Executive Director
