Why We Formed the Twin Cities Housing Alliance

The founding members of the Twin Cities Housing Alliance saw that our region was facing many housing challenges: a lack of housing supply, rising construction costs, loss of naturally affordable homes, a shortage of social service resources, and many others. We believe all people deserve safe, stable and attainable homes, and recognize that these challenges hurt families, communities and our region’s economic competitiveness.

With experience across the housing ecosystem, we sought to use our practical, real-world knowledge to find solutions that will make a meaningful difference in our housing market. Building from our founding members, we found many allies to join our cause since launching this spring. It was crucial that our organization include a variety of perspectives from people who understand how housing works. The TCHA is unique as we bring together experienced professionals who have built, managed, financed, designed and preserved housing communities throughout the Twin Cities for decades. TCHA members represent a variety of organizations– private and nonprofit housing providers, architects and designers, construction trades, banking and finance, advocacy organizations, and business and community institutions.

As an apolitical, private nonprofit, we have the opportunity to lead housing policy conversations in the Twin Cities and work with a variety of organizations to achieve mutual goals. We will work alongside other state and local housing organizations on shared priorities that promote more homes and thriving communities. Sincerely,

Cathy Capone Bennett
